1st BATTALION 14TH ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT

                                             FULDA, GERMANY  1956-62

THIS WEB SITE IS DEDICATED TO THE OFFICERS, ENLISTED MEN AND THEIR FAMILIES WHO SERVED IN THE FULDA GAP WITH THE 14th ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT AND ITS SUPPORTING COMPANIES

The men assigned to the 1-14th ACR and its Supporting Companies arrived at Downs Barracks, Fulda, Germany with a feeling of trepidation and anticipation. Little did they know what was to come or how much this duty station would change their lives forever.

Many arrived or departed Fulda on a train like this one. These photo's were taken in the Fulda train yard and in front of the Bahnhof.

Most of the soldiers that arrived at Fulda had only been in the Army for a few months and many were only 17 years old and for some this was the first time that they had ever traveled outside of their home state.

Some were old soldiers whose job it would be to mold these young men into a fighting force whose job it was to guard the Western Front. These soldiers were to stand in the breach at the Fulda Gap and defend it against the superior odds of the USSR until the Allied Forces in Germany could respond to a evasion of Western Germany.

Some were officers who had been the Army for several years and others that had only been in the Service for a short time. It was their job to lead their Companies and Platoon's, and to teach their Troopers to be True to their Country, Loyal to their Oath,  Honest, Trustworthy and Brave to the end.

Although it must have seem sometimes that their efforts were not paying off but  little did they know that 45 years later that these men would still be driven by the lessons that they learned in the 14th ACR at Downs Barracks,  Fulda, Germany.
